I took this photo the day before David Bowie's death. I heard about it a few days later on the long drive home. A college radio station was playing his final album and I couldn't make heads or tails of it. Is it good? Is it important? Where is this road taking us? From Badlands National Park, South Dakota.

Impervious to Winter

The subject is a Rocky Mountain Juniper. This one stands alone (as they tend to do) in the prairies of Badlands National Park, seeming to shrug off the frost that covers everything else. There is a light cold fog this day, enough to obscure the badlands in the distance and to desaturate almost all color from the environment.
