Noojigiigoonyiwe

I believe the fishing boat belongs to a person of the Ojibwe tribe, so I have named the picture from the Anishinaabemowin language. This is a small cove in Lake Superior Provincial Park, Ontario, early in the season before the visitors arrive. I was going somewhere but spontaneously turned down a road marked with a boat dock sign and found this. I felt somewhat like an intruder, like I should return in a few days when it was officially open to outsiders.

Holdfast

I found this root structure on the Walk of Teachings (Bimose Kinnoomagewnan) at Pukaskwa National Park, Ontario. I thought it had an interesting diagonal symmetry. It comes from a dark, wet part of the forest and is messy with moss and lichen.

Little Icebergs

These little icebergs collect along the eastern shore of Lake Superior in late spring, the last remnants of this winter's lake freeze. They come and go with the wind; I came back the next morning to this very spot and they had all moved elsewhere. From Lake Superior Provincial Park, Ontario.
