Lake Superior
These are from Pukaskwa National Park and Lake Superior Provincial Park, Ontario. I've been here a few times and I'm sure I'll keep coming back. The photos are from early May, 2015 (the lake had frozen over that winter and the last of the ice was bumping against the eastern shoreline) and August 2017. This is where the Canadian Shield, with granite that is 2.7 billion years old – one-fifth of the age of the universe! – meets Lake Superior. The Ojibwe live here, and in late May the RVers, car-campers and backpackers start arriving. But solitude is still easy to find on the trail.
